Bridging Youth Mental Health Gaps with Dual Company Expertise
Published on September 18, 2023Edera and Trusted Medical have the talent and tools to provide communities across the nation with youth mental health screening capabilities
People ages 5-24 are some of the most vulnerable citizens of our country, and yet their mental health continues to be frequently overlooked. Young people across the nation who don’t feel well physically are typically encouraged to see a doctor for appropriate care, so why isn’t it natural to encourage young people who don’t feel well mentally to do the same? The short answer is that youth mental health screening is not readily available.
The United States youth mental health crisis is not improving and has an immense negative impact on young citizens. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) research shows that one in five adolescents ages 13-18 currently has, or at some point has had, a seriously debilitating mental illness.
In 2021, suicide was the second-leading cause of death for adolescents ages 10-14 and the third-leading cause of death for adolescents ages 15-19. Since 2007, suicide rates for people ages 10-24 have also been increasing rapidly.
Furthermore, mental health-based emergency room (ER) visits have increased by 24% for children ages 5-11 and by 31% for adolescents ages 12-17 since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
At Edera, we believe that early intervention, including mental health screenings across states and schools, can improve long-term mental health outcomes. Screenings help identify issues early, so youth who are at risk for or who currently have a mental health illness can better manage their health and treatment options for their condition(s) with support from family members and community resources.
As a technology-enabled health care consultancy that develops, implements, and helps solve health care challenges across the nation, Edera is perfectly suited to lead the charge in providing greater access to mental health screening services.
